Zucchini. Tricks of care One of our friends said: “Last year I planted 5 bushes of zucchini. And when the fruits began to ripen, she grabbed her head: where so much for me ?! I decided to please the neighbor – I picked up a whole basket of zucchini, carried it as a hotel. I met her at her fence … Also with a basket of zucchini. I, the neighbor says, decided to treat you with zucchini. And I say you. And both became funny. ” And in fact, zucchini is very prolific. Moreover, they will give the crop all at once.
Is it possible to ensure the gradual ripening of fruits so as not to “suffocate” under the avalanche of the crop?
It turns out you can. Sow the seeds rib The seeds of zucchini for the summer menu are sown in the ground all May, and for winter storage – from June 1 to 10. Their roots love warmth, so the ideal zucchini plantation is a half-ripened compost in which the decomposition of organic matter is not yet complete. It is friable, moist and warm, and gives food gradually, in process of “preparation”, which is what zucchini needs. A bed of 40–45 cm high is made from such compost, and there are holes in it, the size of a fist (5–8 cm deep), according to the pattern: 0.9–1 x 1–1.5 m, if the squash is climbing, and 0, 7–0.8 x 0.9–1 m, if it is a bush. In each hole, 2 seeds are placed: not flat and do not stick up or down with the nose, but put on the edge. Slightly, not more than 1 cm, is sprinkled with the same compost, watered 1 liter under each plant and covered with a plastic wrap. Sprouts hatch in a cozy hole. After a week and a half, it will be clear which one is weaker and therefore must be removed – cut with scissors. When the young plants reach the top with the tops of the film, they make cross-shaped incisions and release the stems with leaves. The film is not removed until the end of the season: it heats the soil, prevents weeds from growing and does not allow excess moisture to pass to the roots. That, in fact, is all the wisdom. Zucchini with this method do not feed and do not water. Unless in severe drought – on the leaves. After all, the soil on such a bed always remains moist. Seedlings of zucchini of a month old are planted in the evening or in cloudy weather in peat pots or cubes with a diameter of at least 10 cm. The soil should be loose and fertile, seasoned with organic and mineral fertilizers. In a word, no worse than under cucumbers. Wells are prepared in advance with a depth of 15–20 and a width of 30–35 cm, filled with sod-humus mixture, watered and set up film shelters if the time for return frosts has not passed. (In our middle lane, this period is June 7-10, but now the weather is unpredictable, so you should focus on the forecasts of meteorologists). Hide the plants under the umbrella
Zucchini is watered less often than cucumbers, powerful roots themselves produce moisture. In hot and dry weather, water is not poured directly under the root, but in the annular groove around the stem once a week, 8-10 liters of water per 1 m². And if it rains, bushes and lashes are not watered at all. Some gardeners even cover them with old umbrellas so that they do not suffer from fungal ailments. For prevention, you can make an additional dose of potash fertilizers. On a regular, not too nutritious bed, zucchini should be fed, because they form an impressive green mass of leaves and stems. The first top dressing is given before flowering: 1 l of slurry and 20 g of nitrophoska per 10 l of water. Consumption: 1 liter per plant. The second top dressing – during flowering: 20 g of complex fertilizer and 30–40 g of wood ash per 10 l of water. Consumption is the same. The third “lunch” – during fruiting: 40-50 g of nitrophosphate per 10 l of water. Consumption: 2 liters per plant. Remove excess leaves. Unlike pumpkins, squash does not pinch, but at the beginning of flowering, 2-3 large leaves are removed from the middle of the bush. This prevents the development of rot, provides a greater influx of sunlight to the ovaries and the access of insects to the flowers. After 35-40 days, they begin to take the first crop. The length of the zucchini for summer consumption should not exceed 15–20 cm, diameter – 10 cm, otherwise the flesh coarsens. But for storage you need large zucchini, thick, with a hard skin.
Every year for 40 years in October in the English city of Slyndon a festival of pumpkins and zucchini has been held. It all started with the fact that once a farmer laid out the entire pumpkin crop on the roof of the shed so that the fruits ripened. It turned out so beautifully that dozens of people came to admire this picture. Then, farmers began to lay out vegetables only for beauty in luxurious paintings worthy of Van Gogh’s brush, from which it was impossible to take their eyes off. The festival has become so popular that crops are brought to it from Japan and Australia. IT’S LOVELY Delicious and the squash flowers. They are added to salads, put in pizza and pies, soups are cooked with them.
In Greece, zucchini flowers are stuffed with rice and cheese with aromatic herbs, and then baked in tomato sauce or deep-fried. It is proved that if there is often zucchini, the hair stops turning gray. Seeds begin to germinate at 11–13 ° С, but it is better that the temperature is optimal: 25–27 ° С. For normal growth and development of zucchini, 20–25 ° C during the day and 18–20 ° C at night are necessary. Planting zucchini can be densified with green – lettuce, mustard, arugula. After a month, the seals are removed, and matured zucchini have more space for growth.
